PART II of DEFENSE OF EYEWITNESS IDENTIFICATION CASES will pick up where PART I left off by incorporating the lessons and language learned from mistaken eyewitness identification cases (both across the country and in Rhode Island) and using them to develop themes and theories of defense as well as case investigation and preparation strategies, tactics, and techniques. After an initial overview via a Power Point and video presentation the training will entail several small group exercises using a case study problem developed from a real Rhode Island eyewitness identification case that will be distributed via e-mail attachment beginning in early January, 2009.
Although OPD attorneys will be required to attend these training's as part of its free in-house training program RIACDL members and others are invited and welcome to attend at nominal cost, $25.00 for RIACDL members and $50.00 for non-members. PART II is being repeated six times on succeeding Thursday and Friday afternoons during the Winter of 2009 at the OPD’s Main Office in Providence (and one session at the Kent County Courthouse in Warwick) in order to facilitate attendance. Attendees will receive 2.5 hours of in-house CLE credit and a comprehensive set of written materials. NO ADVANCE SIGNUPS! JUST SHOWUP!
